The Institute for Therapeutic Massage, also known as ITM, was established in 1994 by Lisa Helbig, LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist) and has multiple programs which include: Massage & Bodywork, Eastern Bodywork & Shiatsu, Oncology Massage Certification Program, and Massage Therapy & Personal Training. ITM has 6 school locations in New Jer sey, 4 Hospital Affiliations, and offers:

Massage & Bodywork Program

Prepares you to become a multi-faceted massage therapist trained in Swedish, Medical Massage, and several allied Health & Wellness modalities, including sports, reflexology, aromatherapy, chair massage and more. Day and night time class schedules are available to provide the greatest amount of flexibility. Not only meets the requirements of New Jersey’s certification standards, it also provides the knowledge needed to take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCE) and the MBLEx Exam.



Oncology Massage Certification Program

This program was developed to accommodate the growing need for qualified health & wellness professionals trained to not only become a massage therapist, but also perform medical massage on patients who currently have, or are a survivor of cancer. It is the first COMTA accredited program of its kind in the U.S., meets the requirements of New Jersey’s certification standards, and provides students with the knowledge needed to take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork.



The Eastern Bodywork Program

For those interested in pursuing their New York license we offer the 650 hour Eastern Bodywork Program. It is also ideal for those looking to acquire the additional hours required to sit for various out-of-state licensing boards and become a practitioner both domestically and abroad. The program encompasses Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu, Cupping and Gua Sha (a scraping technique). It is intended for students looking to advance their skills in deep tissue techniques and challenge them. Students will learn to work from the floor on mats utilizing applications of fingers, knuckles and elbow pressure as well as incorporating Chinese Medicine assessments for clients.
